Picking Historic House Colors

Presented By

The Belvedere School for Hands-On Preservation

August 19 & 20, 2017

Picking the right paint colors for any historic house or building can be a challenge. Getting it right can make your house a classy standout in your neighborhood. Getting it wrong can be a disaster.

Join fellow students for this fun, comprehensive & interactive, two-day workshop with one of America’s premier historic color experts and preservation architect, Paul Helmer, principle at Touch of Distinction in Kansas City. I featured Paul in my national PBS series, “About Your House with Bob Yapp”.

Paul will lead the class through the entire process including color theory, how color works, color phycology, historic color considerations and field work where students will be picking colors for the National Register, Laura Hawkins House (Laura Hawkins was Sam Clemens model for Becky Thatcher in Tom Sawyer).

At the end of the two days you will know from beginning to end how to properly pick colors for historic properties. At the completion of the class each student will receive a "Certificate of Completion."

Homeowners, small contractors, preservation staff, preservation commission members, hp students and historic building owners will all benefit from this hands-on, traditional training event. All skill levels are encouraged to enroll.

Tuition for this two-day workshop is $250 and includes fresh ground morning coffee, snacks, beverages and lunch. Space is limited to 12 students and pre-registration is required to retain a spot in the class.

Affordable hotels as well as bed & breakfast inns are available for out of town students. For more information or to pre-register call Bob Yapp, 217-474-6052 or yapperman@msn.com
